Saroj Baniya is widely recognized as a youth leader, technology professional, entrepreneur, author, and social innovator whose career has been defined by a deep commitment to public service and community transformation. With a professional background in Information Technology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), he has spent more than sixteen years working at the intersection of technology, leadership, education, entrepreneurship, and social development. Throughout his professional journey, he has consistently promoted the belief that empowering young people with knowledge, skills, opportunities, and leadership platforms is the foundation for building a prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable Nepal.
One of the most remarkable milestones of his leadership journey has been the establishment of the Nepal Youth Council (NYC), one of Nepal’s largest youth-led organizations. As the Founder and Central President, Saroj Baniya transformed the organization from a small youth initiative into a nationwide movement with an active presence across all 77 districts and seven provinces of Nepal. Under his visionary leadership, the Nepal Youth Council has become a platform that connects thousands of young people, encouraging them to participate in leadership, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, innovation, civic engagement, and policy advocacy.
During his tenure, the Nepal Youth Council successfully organized a series of landmark national and international initiatives that significantly expanded youth participation in Nepal’s development process. The organization hosted multiple National Youth Conferences, bringing together youth leaders, policymakers, development partners, and experts from across the country to discuss pressing national issues and create practical solutions. It also organized Provincial Youth Conferences in all seven provinces, providing localized platforms where young people could engage directly with provincial governments, identify regional priorities, and strengthen collaboration between youth and public institutions. Beyond Nepal, Saroj also led Asian Youth Boot Camps, creating opportunities for cross-border collaboration, leadership exchange, and regional cooperation among emerging young leaders from across Asia.
Recognizing that innovative ideas require financial support to become sustainable enterprises, Saroj Baniya introduced youth innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives through which the Nepal Youth Council distributed seed funding to promising young innovators representing all 77 districts and every province of Nepal. These initiatives encouraged youth to develop practical solutions to community challenges while promoting entrepreneurship, employment generation, and local economic development. Many of these young innovators received mentorship, networking opportunities, and institutional support, allowing their ideas to grow into impactful community projects and enterprises.
Another significant achievement under his leadership was the development of Provincial Youth Action Plans for all seven provinces of Nepal. These comprehensive policy documents were prepared through extensive consultations with young people, government representatives, experts, and stakeholders. The completed action plans were formally handed over to both the provincial governments and the Government of Nepal, providing strategic recommendations to strengthen youth participation in governance, employment, education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development. This initiative demonstrated his commitment to ensuring that youth voices are not only heard but integrated into public policy and development planning.
Saroj Baniya has also led several nationwide campaigns that have mobilized thousands of volunteers and strengthened civic responsibility among young people. One of the most impactful initiatives was the National Sanitation Campaign, conducted across 77 heritage sites and major tourism destinations throughout Nepal. The campaign promoted environmental cleanliness, responsible tourism, and community participation while raising public awareness about preserving Nepal’s cultural and natural heritage. Complementing this effort was the nationwide One Youth, One Plant Campaign, through which more than 25,000 tree saplings were planted by youth volunteers across the country. This initiative reflected his long-term commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and youth-led conservation efforts.
A defining characteristic of Saroj Baniya’s leadership has been his ability to build partnerships across sectors. Throughout his career, he has successfully established collaborations with more than 700 organizations, including federal, provincial, and local governments, private sector companies, multinational corporations, United Nations agencies, development partners, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and grassroots community organizations. These partnerships have enabled the implementation of numerous national programs focused on youth empowerment, education, entrepreneurship, innovation, climate action, volunteerism, digital transformation, and sustainable development. His collaborative leadership style has consistently demonstrated that meaningful social impact is achieved through cooperation, shared vision, and collective action.
Technology and innovation remain central pillars of Saroj Baniya’s professional expertise and social vision. Having worked extensively in information technology, digital marketing, search engine optimization, multimedia production, web technologies, digital communication, and innovation strategy for more than sixteen years, he strongly believes that technology is one of the most powerful tools for reducing inequality and expanding opportunities. He has consistently advocated for increasing digital literacy, promoting artificial intelligence education, strengthening IT skills, and supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurship among young people. His vision extends beyond technology adoption; he seeks to prepare Nepal’s youth for the rapidly evolving global economy by equipping them with future-ready knowledge and practical digital competencies that improve employability, encourage innovation, and create sustainable livelihoods.
Beyond his national contributions, Saroj Baniya has represented Nepal in several international platforms dedicated to youth development, peacebuilding, disaster resilience, and sustainable development. His international engagements have enabled him to exchange knowledge with global leaders while promoting Nepal’s experiences in youth participation and community development. As a Global Peace Ambassador, he actively promoted intercultural dialogue, volunteerism, and peacebuilding among young leaders from different countries. He also participated in international discussions related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), youth engagement, education, climate action, digital inclusion, and social innovation.
