United Nations Day, celebrated annually on 24th October, marks the anniversary of the UN Charter coming into force in 1945. Today, 24th October 2026, the world celebrates 81 years of the United Nations as the cornerstone of international cooperation, law, and collective action.
The 2026 celebration, reminds us that “Building Peace Together for a Just and Sustainable Future”, comes at a critical moment. The world continues to face complex challenges such as armed conflicts, terrorism, climate change, poverty, forced migration, and growing mistrust among nations. In this context, the role of the UN in safeguarding global peace is more vital than ever.

Global peace is not merely the absence of war; it is the presence of justice, equality, opportunity, and respect for human rights. It is the foundation for achieving all Sustainable Development Goals. Without peace, schools cannot function, economies cannot grow, and societies cannot thrive.
The United Nations promotes global peace through its multifaceted work: peacekeeping operations in conflict zones, preventive diplomacy and mediation, humanitarian assistance to displaced populations, disarmament initiatives, promotion of human rights, and platforms for dialogue.
From supporting ceasefires and protecting civilians to empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups in peace processes, the UN reminds us that lasting peace is built from the ground up.
As we celebrate UN Day 2026, let us renew our commitment to the UN Charter: to practice tolerance, live together as good neighbours, and unite our strength to maintain global peace and security. Peace is everyone’s responsibility, but the UN and Global Peace remains our best hope for achieving it.
