Global Peace, an initiative of the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), has successfully launched its Congo (Brazzaville) country office.
The vision of Global Peace is to act as a catalyst for collaborative efforts that create social compacts between governments, multi-lateral agencies, the private sector and civil society; towards generating innovative solutions to ongoing challenges to peace and development.
Speaking on the theme “Peace On The River: Building Bridges From The Congo To The World”, the Global Coordinator General of Global Peace, Mr. Kobla Asamani, said the choice of Brazzaville reflects Congo’s strategic position as a gateway between Central and West Africa.
“The Congo River has for centuries connected communities, cultures, and economies. Today, we launch Global Peace Congo to build new bridges – bridges of understanding, cooperation, and shared prosperity that extend from the Congo to the rest of Africa and the world,” he said.
Through the new office, Global Peace will implement programs aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the African Union Agenda 2063, and the objectives of Global Peace, Mr. Asamani added.
The Global Coordinator General further noted that the office will serve as a hub for youth empowerment, conflict prevention, and digital advocacy. He emphasized that the theme “Peace on the River” recognizes the role of waterways, trade, and people-to-people ties in fostering regional stability.
The launch brought together government officials, youth leaders, civil society organizations, traditional authorities, and development partners.
Speakers included Dr. Antonin Idriss Bossoto, Lecturer-Researcher and Expert in Communication and Multimedia, Université Marien NGOUABI of the Republic of the Congo, and Mr. Florian Koulimaya, Advisor for Youth and Civic Education to the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of the Congo.
Mr. Koulimaya commended Global Peace for investing in Congolese youth and pledged government support for joint programs aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063.
The event symbolized a renewed commitment to using dialogue, youth leadership, and regional cooperation to advance peace and sustainable development in Central Africa.
Key focus areas for Global Peace Congo include:
1. Youth Peacebuilding Training for young people as peace ambassadors to promote tolerance and counter hate speech in communities along the Congo River basin
2. Digital Advocacy that will equip the youth with tools to use social media and media platforms to promote peace narratives and fact-check misinformation
3. Regional Cooperation dialogue facilitation and exchange programs that will build bridges between Congo, neighbouring states, and the global community
4. Sustainable Development initiatives that will link peace to climate action, job creation, and inclusive economies
In his remarks, the newly appointed Country Representative of Global Peace Congo, Mr. Kinouani Kinavouidi Jeanedvi, stated that the office will prioritize grassroots engagement and partnerships.
“Peace begins with us. This office will work with young Congolese to turn the spirit of the river — connection, flow, and unity — into action for peace in our communities,” he said.
