“DIGITAL YOUTH, REAL PEACE: BUILDING FUTURES TOGETHER”
In 2026, more than 60% of the world’s youth are digital natives. They learn on TikTok, organize on WhatsApp, advocate on X, and connect Instagram and Facebook to build communities in virtual spaces.
This is our reality: Digital Youth are building Real Peace. At Global Peace, we believe technology is not the opposite of human connection. It is a tool. When placed in the hands of young peacebuilders, it becomes a bridge to facts over rumours, dialogue over division, and cooperation over conflict.
Why This Theme, Why Now?
The world in 2026 is more connected and more fractured than ever. Misinformation spreads in seconds. Climate crises, unemployment, and inequality push young people to the margins. Yet at the same time, youth are leading.
- They are using AI to translate peace messages across languages.
- They are using data to track hate speech and counter it.
- They are using mobile platforms to mediate community disputes and mobilize climate action.
Digital Youth, Real Peace recognizes this power. It calls on all of us to support, resource, and amplify young people who are turning clicks into action and followers into change makers.
What “Digital Youth, Real Peace” Looks Like
1. Digital Literacy for Peace equips youth to identify misinformation and promote factual, respectful dialogue online.
2. Tech for Social Good supports youth-led apps, campaigns, and platforms that address mental health, civic participation, and climate resilience.
3. Support Safe Online Spaces and work with industry and policymakers to protect youth from online harassment, hate, and radicalization.
4. Promote Online to On-ground digital campaigns to real community projects in schools, farms, and local governments.
Global Peace’s Commitment in 2026
On this International Youth Day, Global Peace reaffirms our commitment to `Working Together for a Better World` by investing in youth.
Through our Annual Youth Day Summit and Annual Youth, Peace and Security Summit, we will:
- Create “Digital Peacebuilders Fellowship” to train young leaders in AI, digital advocacy, and conflict mediation.
- Host regional “Peace Hackathons” where youth design tech solutions for local peace challenges.
As Kobla Asamani, Global Coordinator General of Global Peace states: “Knowledge is our most renewable resource for peace. Today, that knowledge lives on our phones. When we trust youth with the tools and the truth, they will build the future we all need. Digital Youth, Real Peace.”
A Call to Action:
- Call on governments to fund digital skills and safe internet access for youth.
- Encourage the private sector to partner with youth innovators and protect online spaces.
- Partner with civil society to mentor, share platforms, and listen to young leaders.
- Work with young people to use their phones as peacebuilding tools to share and Lead in the digital space.
This International Youth Day, let us move beyond fear of technology. Let us believe in the young people using it. Because when Digital Youth lead, Real Peace follows. And together, we are Building Futures
